Using a combination of computer simulations and cutting-edge lab experiments, a Rice lab is helping uncover molecular clues to Wilson disease. The physical biochemists have discovered how a small genetic mutation — a cause of the disease — can subtly change the structure of a large, complex protein that the body uses to keep copper from building to toxic levels.
